REVIEW: 9 HERTFORD STREET, LUXURY SHORT STAY APARTMENTS IN MAYFAIR

Fanny Brice, Funny Girl : [looking in the mirror] Hello, gorgeous.

I recently stayed at 9 Hertford Street, a handsome property on Hertford Street offering beautifully appointed apartments in the heart of Mayfair. Hertford Street is one of my favourite streets in Mayfair, famous for its Georgian architecture and 5 Hertford Street, where I have many a fond memory of Bruichladdich in the sun, Champagne dinners and dancing.

According to the team at 9 Hertford Street, Hertford Street was built on Brick Hill Field between 1764-1771 by Henry Holland the elder, his son and John Eldridge. The road was named after the nearby (and no longer) Hertford Arms. Properties on the road are quintessentially Georgian - panelled doors, fanlights, cornicing and an abundance of interior panels - non other than Robert Adam is behind the interiors. Fast forward to now, and we have a nice mixture of residential and commercial properties on the road.

When I arrived at 9 Hertford Street, I was greeted by a friendly staff member poised behind a large white desk adorned with yellow roses. Beautiful natural lighting, tall ceilings, period features, elegant furnishings, decorative fireplaces and traditional artwork catch the eye - a welcomed change from the usual Art Deco interiors found in most local hotels.

I was promptly shown to a one bedroom apartment on the fourth floor. I was immediately impressed by the laid back, speedy check-in - it's like borrowing a friend's apartment, I had a quick show-around before the keys were placed in my hand. The apartment boasts an attractive lounge / dining room and a bedroom, both with access to a large balcony; plus a kitchen and a bathroom. Mod cons - Sky TV, a washing machine, dishwasher, oven, kettle, etc. If you have work to do, or you just feel like staying in, it’s so nice to know you can cook / put on a load of washing.

I wasted no time in firing up the kettle so that I could enjoy a peppermint tea, a Connaughty Hound and Funny Girl in the decadent lounge area. Personal touches can be spotted throughout the apartment - a cot and a branded teddy for my daughter, a cafetiere with ground coffee for me, a 9 Hertford Street magazine filled with ideas for days out and local dining.

After day of meetings and a dinner in nearby Shepherd Market, I was excited to fall asleep in the enormous, comfortable bed, knowing that I’d be waking up to a lazy Sunday in Mayfair. I ended my visit with coffee on the balcony, book shopping, breakfast on North Audley Street and walks through nearby Grosvenor Square and Green Park.

9 Hertford Street’s luxury apartments are available for short term stays, ideal for business and leisure travellers alike. They are both family and dog friendly - a real selling point. Apartments are individually designed, spacious and comfortable and parking is available if you have a car to stow away. I have been looking for a Mayfair ‘home from home’ for a very long time and 9 Hertford Street certainly fits the bill - this family-run business genuinely care about their guests and I can't wait to return.
