MADDOX GALLERY, MAYFAIR PRESENTS A THRILLING NEW SERIES OF WORK BY THE CONNOR BROTHERS

Maddox Gallery, Mayfair presents a new series of work by The Connor Brothers, which will be exhibited from 23rd November. This is terribly exciting for a number of reasons, but mainly because these brothers are notorious for their artful deception and playful story lines. Mills & Boon have always been known to raise an eyebrow on the bookshelf and thanks to The Connor Brothers you can now add similarly raunchy inspiration to the walls of your house or office (depending on your line of work, of course).

10 Terribly Exciting Facts About The Connor Brothers’

  1. The Connor Brothers’ work is mysterious, eye-catching, satirical and humorous in nature and explores the blurring of boundaries between truth and fiction.
  2. The Connor Brothers emerged onto the art scene as mysterious American twins, Franklyn and Brendan Connor, who were brought up within an extremist Christian cult known as 'The Family’.
  3. Allegedly, the twins had escaped to Brooklyn where they began creating artwork in order to make sense of the world they had been deprived of.
  4. In October 2014 these characters were revealed to be a myth; The Connor Brothers were actually art dealers turned artists Mike Snelle and James Golding.
  5. Their artworks have been auctioned alongside Banksy and Damien Hirst at Christie's and Bonham's.
  6. Their painting “Thrilling News” sold for £9,375 as part of a contemporary art sale at Bonhams auction house in London in March.
  7. Artworks have also been sold at numerous art fairs in London, and there have been sell-out shows at galleries in London, Los Angeles and Sydney.
  8. In 2015 they curated Pussy Riot’s performance at Banksy’s Dismaland exhibition.
  9. In December 2017 they will debut previously unseen oil paintings at Art Miami with Maddox Gallery.
  10. Mimicking vintage book cover imagery, often from romantic novels or Shakespeare classics, the artists reproduce the covers as large-scale acrylic and oil paintings, modifying the book titles with their own text, changing the message while maintaining the context.
