Since its launch in London’s Mayfair (it originally opened in Mount Street) before moving to Sloane Square where it currently resides, Nyumba has always been home to a dream team of talent; many of whom are session stylists in the fashion and media industry. The salon is bursting at the seams with personality and passion as well as being an eclectic and exotic Tanzanian-inspired feast for the eyes. 

“It’s easy to feel intimidated in salons, so I created an extension of my own home; somewhere to relax,” Michael says of the salon interior, which was inspired by his childhood in Africa. The salon has a friendly and exclusive 'member's club' feel, without the outdated pomp and circumstance often associated with in-demand London hot spots. You will be treated very well.

Michael and his wife Giulia Zuccaroli (heads up the colour team) are at the top of their game and you are lucky if you can pin them down for an appointment due to demand. They have hand-picked their A-list team who, like them, can genuinely create the most flattering haircut you are ever likely to book in for. Guilia trained in London and Rome (where she was entrusted to the hair of Sofia Loren and the Fendi sisters) and nothing is too complex for her. She creates the perfect Chelsea ‘blonde’ with ease.

I ran to Nyumba for an emergency blow dry ahead of the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Awards at Claridge's recently and was not disappointed. My experience started with a Botanist G&T and a Cindy Crawford obsession and ended with enough bounce and shine to take on the entire world. I was recommending Nyumba to every woman who complimented my hair and subsequent glow at the awards and will be returning again and again, for events and every day fabulousness.
